Bike the Loop to cut down your carbon footprint

By Kelly Barth

Many of us would like to find ways to cut down on our carbon footprint and contribute less to global warming.

According to the European Cyclist Federation, bicycling is a great way to do that saying, “In total, riding your bike accounts for about 21 g of CO2 emissions per kilometer…more than ten times less than a car!”

Try this Lawrence Loop experiment:

1) Draw a one-mile circle around your house on a map of Lawrence.
2) Look for a segment of the Lawrence Loop within that circle, if there is one.
3) Commit to running at least one weekly errand by bicycle within that circle.

You can use many parts of the Loop to get within just a few blocks of your destination.
