At the Lawrence City Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 5th the commission approved a construction bid for a new segment of the Lawrence Loop. The segment will run from the Santa Fe depot to the intersection of 8th and Delaware. It will pass behind the Quonset hut building across the street from the Poehler Lofts Building.

The Loop trailhead will be at the Sante Fe Depot and the new segment will connect with the Loop Segment 1 which spans from the Arts District through Hobbs Park.

A piece of public art is planned to be placed along the new segment, which will commemorate the historic LaYarda neighborhood, which was located near this section of the trail.

Work on the new segment is slated to begin in April.
