Cyndie Coutney

Meet Cyndie Courtney, Avid Trail User

Cyndie is a 40 year old Veterinarian who has a spouse and two kids. She says she has too many hobbies to list but she primarily enjoys reading, hiking, and a smattering of different arts including painting watercolors, writing, and jewelry making.

Trails are particularly important to Cyndie because she has such great memories of nature, moving her body, and enjoying time with her family from her time growing up. She reports she make time every week to get out on a walk with her family. They are are big fans of the trials at the Prairie Park Nature Center.

What she appreciates most about our area trails is that they are close, that they show our community’s dedication to the environment, and that they bring our community together.

When asked how can the Lawrence Trail System be improved she said that there is a Meetup group called “Midwest Trails and Adventure” that has scheduled group walks/hikes every weekend around Johnson County, she would love to see individuals hosting walks in Lawrence either through that group or through an independent group. This would further help bring people together and increase awareness of Lawrence Trails.

She says having opportunities to enjoy the trails together would help improve a sense of safety on the trails, especially for women. She said she would like a better way to find out about local Lawrence Trails she doesn’t already know about. She is glad to hear about FLAT. She didn’t know our organization existed prior to this interview.
