Lawrence Bike Plan Updates

The City of Lawrence is in the process of updating the city Bike Plan. It was originally drafted in 2019. The Bike Plan update seeks to make Lawrence more bike-friendly community. FLAT Board Member Jared Gab is representing our not-for-profit organization on the committee working on the plan.

Lawrence is a regionally recognized leader in active modes of transportation and has been a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community since 2004. Our city has made progress on bicycle safety, bike infrastructure, and multimodal mobility through support from a variety of state, regional, and local plans. The Lawrence Bikes Plan fits into this larger planning context by providing an analysis of existing conditions, strategies to achieve a safer, more comfortable bicycle network, and a vision for the future of biking in Lawrence.

The city aims to have a draft of the new plan to submit to the Lawrence City Commission later this year. “The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is updating the Lawrence Bike Plan, building on the progress made over the past five years,” according to a news release from the city. “This update will refine existing infrastructure plans and set the course for continued improvements.”

The city is asking the community for its input.

City staff members will be tabling at two upcoming events:
• 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Trails That Connect Us, 1927 Moodie Road
• 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Lawrence Farmers Market, 824 New Hampshire St.

There is also an online survey that takes about seven minutes to complete, according to the city. It will be available until May 4 at this link.
