Downtown Lawrence river recreation and whitewater area proposed
January 3, 2019
The Lawrence City Commission will soon hear from city staff about a Bowersock Dam maintenance project that could potentially provide new recreational opportunities in the downtown Lawrence area.
The Lawrence Journal World reports that the an upcoming project “to repair the Kansas River dam and address erosion of the riverbank” could potentially include “a terraced stone plaza that creates river entry points and extends slightly into the river and helps create pools and whitewater for kayaking and other water activities.” The newspaper reports that contractors claim these amenities could be provided without additional cost to the city.
