Get Outdoors Kansas App Helps Navigate Winding Trails

I like to hike solo, but my sense of direction isn’t always reliable on winding paths like the Kansas River Trails in North Lawrence or the Clinton Lake North Shore Trails.

Luckily, there’s an app to help with that.

GetOutdoorsKS, available for download for Apple and Android phones, provides directions to and along more than 4,100 miles of Kansas trails where you can hike, bike or paddle. It also lists outdoor activities and events across the state.

This morning I got a little turned around on the Kansas River Trails, which have limited signage. I just whipped out my iPhone, opened the app, and got directions to Riverfront Park, where I had parked my car.

A blue pulsing dot with a directional arrow confirmed that I was walking in the right direction.

The app also estimated how long it would take to walk to my car from my current location.

If you are occasionally directionally challenged, or simply want to confirm or communicate your current location while out on a trail, it’s a great tool.

Thanks, Get Outdoors Kansas!
