City Commission Votes Against RAISE Grant Application

The Lawrence City Commission voted at it’s regular meeting on February 16th not to proceed with an application for a RAISE grant to pursue funding for bike and pedestrian connections through downtown Lawrence.

They decided against approving a grant proposal that could have covered the construction of an incomplete section of the Lawrence Loop near downtown, along with a new pedestrian bridge across the Kansas River.

Commissioners felt there were too many unanswered questions about alignment and design elements in the plan to pursue a project involving more than $20 million in expenditures.

Commissioners indicated support for the Loop and for ongoing planning efforts to chart a course forward.
